GLIDSTÄLL
Solo Project
In collaboration with IKEA, the brief was to reduce the amount of food waste in the home. The GLIDSTÄLL ("sliding rack" in Swedish) is a food storage rack that allows users to sort food items by the meals they can be used in, along with the food items' expiration dates in mind.

The GLIDSTÄLL implements the concepts of food stock rotation and "first in, first out" (FIFO). Food stock rotation is a storage method to reduce waste via placing products to the front of the shelf should they have an earlier sell-by date, while FIFO is a type of food stock rotation where items are placed in the front of the shelf are prioritized in consumption. As expiration dates become less accurate and focused on, GLIDSTÄLL aims to help users achieve both building a habit of FIFO and meal planning in order to reduce food waste.

Starting off as a storage unit placed on a kitchen countertop, the GLIDSTÄLL evolved into a storage rack to reduce its bulkiness and create a simple yet geometric aesthetic. The food storage racks automatically slide downwards as the user moves an empty rack to the top. The rack's base can be extended to fit different fridge sizes, allowing it to replace a refrigerator shelf rather than sitting on top of one, accommodating food items that require refrigeration.
